My Minds Eye - Now and Then

Good morning everyone and welcome to May!

Who can believe that it is May already?? Where is this year going??

This month is a sad month for us all here at Scrapbookit. At the end of the month Jo is packing up the shop. Whilst this is an extremely sad occasion...we, the design team, are not going anywhere...Jo will still have the online store and everything else is being moved home to Jo's place. So whilst the shop front in Porepunkah will be no longer we will still be around. We will still be sharing our projects here on the Scrapbookit Blog, running crop days and retreats! So there is a lot to be happy about!

Now on to my project for this month...

Before I begin I would like to welcome our GDT for this month, Jenn Seymour. We are so excited to have you as part of the team Jenn and we thank you for sharing your work with us all.

This month, Jo sent me the gorgeous 'Now and Then' by My Minds Eye. This range features a variety of gorgeous patterned paper from flowers through to stripes and dots, all in the gorgeous aquas that are lining the paper shelves in every scrapbook store around the world.

This month Jenn (May GDT) has set a bit of a recipe challenge. I loved this challenge!

Here is the challenge..

You must use...

1) Black and White photo

2) a copy of your photo (any sizes)

3) embellishments (at least 

4) patterned papers and

a 5) word titlle.

Here is what I came up with...

(I apologise for the bad photo of my layout...this was the best of a bad bunch)

The black and white photo is a photo of my Dad and I in January. Dad had come down for a visit. We took the opportunity to try and get some nice photos. That was until the 'photo bomber' appeared. I know the challenge was to use a black and white photo and a copy of that photo...but when I printed these photos I could not resist.

I have used the Darkroom Door - French Script Background Stamp with some Versamark Inks and randomly stamped the background paper. I have also stamped the DoubleMates cardstock to remove the plainness.

I have layered the different patterned papers and inked the edges with a black Versamark ink.

My three embellishments are...the two chipboard pieces. I have got  these from out of my stash. They are Basic Grey chipboard elements. I have painted them with some cream paint and waited for them to dry before stamping again with the Darkroom Door stamp.

Another of my embellishments is the gorgeous little frame which I have used from the My Minds Eye range called Chalk Studio 2. I have used this frame to contain my journalling.

I have used some twine, washi tape and I have used my Silhouette Cameo to create the title from Kaisercard - Grey, cardstock. And of course, my five word title is "Two's Company, Three's a Crowd!"

Basic Grey - PB & J

Hello, Mel here on this lovely Friday morning!

While you are settling down to read this post I am busily preparing for a presentation I am doing at the Sandhurst Diocesan Conference.....wish me luck! I really truly and honestly wish that I was in my own little world scrapping but sometimes life is not as we want it to be.....maybe I can just talk to them about scrapbooking and not technology.....:0)

Bec has presented us this month with an awesome challenge. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and I have dabbled in techniques that I rarely use. Thanks Bec!

The requirements for this challenge are:

1 6x4 photo

Circles

Distressing

Banners (1 or many)

Stitching (even just a little)

It is always sooo exciting to open up our kits sent from Jo. She is always getting in the newest paper collections and lots of other embellishments, tools and products. Make sure you head over to the online store regularly to check them out.

Well, I was extremely blessed to receive the lovely collection from Basic Grey - pb&j. It was so easy to use and there are some gorgeous colour combos you could play with.

I was so tempted to stick with the blues and do a masculine page.....however I took a step into the deep end and played with the more aqua colours. The photo doesn't show the true colours and it does appear to be blue but believe me it is more aqua.

My layout is of Brayden and his Nanna's. It was my very first Mother's Day and for my Mum her very first Nanna's Day. Jan has older grandchildren but a special day for her too as her other grandchildren are significantly older than Brayden.

Here is my take on the challenge....

I have as you can see used all patterned papers in my layout. There is no cardstock. Isn't it great when you have double sided papers that are plain with small amounts of texture? It makes matching cardstock a non event.

I have distressed everything - except my embellishments. I used a distressing tool to do this - just an inexpensive model. Jo has some Tim Holtz Distressing tools instore - click here to grab yourself one. You could also use the electric ones, a nail file or some sandpaper. I scrunched the pb&j - Toasted paper (reverse side) and used some of the absolutely gorgeous Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Broken China brushed across the creases. I love it and the effect that it gives!

I have made use of the Daisy Mae paper from pb&j to cut out my embellishments and have also embellished using the pb&j title stickers.


Do you love my fence? Well that is a Kaisercraft Vintage Fence Clear Stamp...it is just gorgeous. I have done some stitching behind and through the banner as well as on the left of the red strip of patterned paper...hand sewn too! Not to mention those gorgeous Fabric Thickers that I have brushed with some of the Tim Holtz Distress Ink just to remove the starkness.


Now for the card challenge....Janene requested that we use pinwheels on our cards. I love pinwheels and have used them previously but again maybe something I had almost forgotten about.
I decided to also incorporate some distressing and some banners.
I have used the  lovely collection from Basic Grey - pb&j again. Isn't it wonderful when you can get two different looks from one paper collection?

I used some Kaiser Cardstock for my card base. I also used some scraps of the pb&j collection - I am starting to get better at making cards with my scraps!!

To make my pinwheels I cut some squares, folded on the diagonal and cut into each corner the same distance. I have glued the corners into the middle and hid the joins with some of the gorgeous little resin flowers Jo has in store at Scrapbookit.

A bit of Bakers Twine tied and some of the gorgeous Glitter Thickers to finish it off. 

A simple, easy and quick card.
