Inky trees.

Hi everyone!
My name is Ruby Bisson (or Ruby Claire as per my blog), and this is my first post as a Design Team member for Scrapbookit. What an honour! I am so greatly looking forward to the next 6 months working alongside some wonderful creatives and sharing with you some of the awesome product that Jo has in her store!
I thought I would share this layout I created with some of the Bo Bunny's Mama-Razzi papers.

The photo I had taken on my iPhone. It was quite dull and pixellated, but it documented a really fond memory, so I couldn't not scrapbook it! Using black ink and a thin paintbrush I decided to extend the trees as I remembered them. This isn't something I had ever really done before, but I quite liked the idea. My scrapbooking style is very arty (as you will soon discover), and I often seek to push the boundaries and 'rules' of scrapbooking, making each page like a little artwork. This was definitely a fun experiment!

Patterned paper is always so beautiful, particularly those in this line! However, sometimes I find it a little too busy to use as a background piece, particularly if my photo is quite muted. If this is the case, I often use some white paint and an old membership card to a handbag shop I probably won't ever buy from again, and swipe the paint sporadically over the background. You can still see the gorgeous pattern and colour, but it helps keep the focus on the photo.

I also trimmed one patterned paper down and mounted it onto another, blending the two with some white paint and some of Tim Holtz' Distress Paints (Vintage Photo). This was once again,  to draw the eye into the centre of the 12x12, so the focus was on the photo and the detail from the patterned paper wasn't lost off the edges of the page. I attached a brad in each corner to make sure it was secure, and also for decoration.

And so wraps up my first layout! My next post will be of the monthly challenge, which is a great challenge I might add! I hope all is well, that you are inspired, and that you are scrapbooking!

  3. Congrats Ruby on your first post....it is absolutely gorgeous. I am real fan of trees with no leaves - all of my HSC artworks were based on them. Love the papers and your creativity!
