It's Christmas in July! :)

Good morning scrapbookers!!!

Don't you just love a challenge? I sure do! This month's challenge here at Scrapbookit is "Christmas in July". The twist is (oh yes there is a twist!) that you must use NON TRADITIONAL colours and products! So let's see how creative you all can be and get scrapping your Chrissy photos! You must also base your layout on the wonderful sketch by our own Monica Brady, which was published in a recent issue of Scrapbooking Memories magazine, and can also be seen at the side of the blog here.

So without further ado, here is my DT example....

My layout is called "Santa Stop Here" and I've been so spoilt this month!!! I received an amazing DT box from my very own Santa - Scrapbookit's owner, Jo!!! I love having Christmas all year round! Thanks Jo! :)

So the wonderful collection I got to work with this month is "Sunshine Broadcast" by Sassafras Lass - my fave! This collection has the most gorgeous colours and patterns! On my layout I've used "Kindle" patterned paper as my base - I just love the calendar pattern (just perfect for any page - especially one with a very important date! Like Christmas!).

I've also used the super-cute polka-dotted "Static" patterned paper (don't you just love these titles?!) and I've used "Enlighten's" die-cut trims at the bottom left and top right corner of my page as a design element. I love how Sassafras Lass has those die-cut trims on all their patterned paper - it's totally awesome.

Now I have a super quick confession - I'm not the biggest flower fan out there. I don't actually use them much, but I have to say these "Foldies" are really, really cool!!! They are also excellent value too - at only $3.95 you get a full 12x12 page of pre-cut flowers in super-cool designs and in bunches. You simply press them out, fold in the little tabs and stick them down! I used foam tape under the flowers I wanted to give dimension - it's so easy but so effective.

I have also used these stunningly delicate Green Tara Small Yellow Flowers. Total bargain. For a pack of 10 it's only $1.25! I love them! Call me converted! :) And did you notice on my layout those beautiful Green Tara Maple Leaves? Same deal as the flowers and they are so beautiful! I'm really impressed by how perfect they are in detail.

I used Sassafras Lass' Mini Alphas in Slate for "Santa" and I made my own alphas for "Stop Here" by just writing on some white paper with a marker and cutting it out.

Now, continuing with the CHRISTMAS IN JULY theme, this months card challenge is to get a nice head start on your Christmas cards by creating a 'Set of 3 Christmas cards'. They may be made of any product but they should be a similar design to create the set. So here are my cards using the same range of lovely products that I used for my layout...

I love the range of ribbons in store here. I've used the tiniest little off-cut as the flower centre. I used every last bit of my ribbon! :)

Here's my second card and here you can see more of that lovely ribbon as well as more of those lovely products I used on my layout. :) I have used Core'dinations cardstock for all my cards.

Here's my third Christmas card, aptly titled "Christmas". :) Making cards in a set is a great idea!

Well I hope you like my shares today, and I hope you'll give these fun challenges a try! If you do, you may win an awesome prize! You have until the 14th of August to get your entries in, by e-mailing them to Joanne or dropping them in-store. Looking forward to seeing all your wonderful creations in the gallery!

Until next time,
Cheers!
From Chantal :)

  3. Thank you girls! Your comments are so lovely and they make me smile! :) Mel, the 2nd card is just like a shaker box but without the shaking action. I spread glue and paint inside the box and sprinkled stars over the top and mixed it up a bit... it was fun! :)
