Delight!

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Year!
I hope you have had a wonderful start to 2014 with lots of creating, what else could be better.

I have been busily creating with the gorgeous kit that Jo sent me this month. Well, that is in between the many visitors we have had at home since Christmas.

As I think I have said before I have taken on a little more of a challenge each month. Rather than creating a layout that fits the challenge guidelines I have volunteered to create something a bit different.

This month I headed yet again back into the past. Years ago I made a star album. Just recently my friend gave me a copy of the instructions for making a star album...not knowing that I was about to start making one that day for this challenge.
I just love the star album...either as a traditional album or opened out like a star it is very effective and eye catching.

Here is the cover of my album when closed over as a traditional album...

I have used the gorgeous Prima - Jodie Lee Designs - Delight Collection, a WOW - Vintage Bird Cage which I sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmermist - Pearl and some gorgeous plastic flag banners ~ all available at Scrapbookit.

I decided to use the photos of my mum, 2 sisters and I from our trip to Melbourne. We went to High Tea at the Windsor Hotel. Again I have used the gorgeous 'Delight Collection'...at the bottom of each page there is a strip where the paper information and barcodes are found. This collection has a strip of gorgeous flag bunting on the back...which you can see below (and on nearly every page I loved it so much!)
I have used a Kaiser stamp and some Watermark Staz on Ink as well as some Adorn-it Alpha Stickers.

I made sure that I included each of us in the album.  In the background of this page I have used some Tim Holtz Distress Ink and the 'Heart Confetti' Scrap FX Stencil to add the hearts to the background. I also (which is not clearly visible) used the stencil and some Texture Paste for another dimension to the background. I have inked all the edges of the patterned paper using the Kaisercraft Ink - Grey.

I have added some tags so that I could add extra details, stories, journalling.

In the centre page of the album I have added a quote from Desmond Tutu...
"You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them"
The chipboard corners I have used are really old and I am unsure of their manufacturer...but always good to hit the stash!

As with the similar page seen previoulsy I have included photos of both my mum, sisters and I.
I have also used the same ink and texture paste with the Scrap FX Stencil to add to the background.

Check out some of the yummy food we ate there...don't forget the famous 'Dessert Buffet.'

The final page includes a little saying 'Time spent together is a memory forever.'
This a little tag that is part of the paper collection, as are the tags in the pockets behind the photos. I have used some gorgeous silver rhinestones for that added bling.

Here is a photo of the star album opened out for display.

Last but not least the back page...the same beautiful Prima paper collection. The centre image was cut from one of the patterned papers.

I hope that you agree that this is a cute little way to present one of your favourite events.

A few little tips for creating this star album:
* Be sure to create and embellish all your pages before adding them into the star album.
* Be patient...it can take some time to complete.
* Look at your patterned paper in both the traditional album form but also in the star album to make sure that the papers work well together wherever you put them.
* It is a good idea to use a patterned paper collection that the paper is a little thicker (in this instance the Prima was perfect)...helps to create a more sturdy album.

As for the guidelines for Dale's challenge...I think I have incorporated some different features...
* I have inked all patterned papers
*  I have included rhinestones
* I have layered patterned paper
* I have incorporated tags...whether they are embellished tags I will leave that for you to decide.

We would love for you to join us this month for Dale's awesome challenge.
Make sure you get your entry to Jo (joanne@scrapbookit.com.au) by the end of the month.

Until then make sure you pop back in to the blog for more inspiration from the team.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Mel x
