Garage Days by Kaisercraft

Can you believe that it is November? 

I know I can’t...it is very scary how quickly this year has flown by.

We have had an amazing year here at Scrapbookit and there is still more to come!!!

To kick off the second last month of the year we have a great challenge for you all to join in with. We also have some great new products in store that you may be able to use. You could try some of the new Scrap FX stamps/stencils, some WOW chipboard and use them alongside some of the new Kaisercraft paper collections or how about Fancy Pants???

This months challenge is to follow the recipe from below. You need to include the following on your project:

* 5 Pieces of patterned paper ( any size)

* 4 Embellishments

* 3 Word  title
* 2 photo's (any size)
* 1 mask/stencil (as many times as you like)

I have been very lucky to play with the Garage Days collection by Kaisercraft. This range is a great masculine range featuring denim, cars, gasoline pumps and heaps of quotes and words about Dads and/or the males in our lives. It was extremely easy to work with.

Here is my layout...

I have used the gorgeous Spare Parts page for the background. I just love the wood grain effect on this page, it makes a great background. Along with this I have used Oil Change, Tool Box and Gas Tank (Front and Back) to make up the 5 pieces of patterned paper required for the recipe. I have distressed the edges of the smaller pieces of patterned paper to give that “grungy” look!

I have used a little collectable and a card from Wheel Alignment to create a hidden journalling card. A great way to make sure you journal! I love it that I can write special messages to my boys and they are not visible on the layout.

I have used some Twiddleybitz and Scrap Matts cogs, found in my stash, as part of the 4 embellishments. I have used a Collections chipboard movie ticket, some Garage Days collectable sayings and a shield (tucked under the patterned papers) as well as a button for my embellishments.

The Garage Days Element Sticker Sheet has so many wonderful options for use on layouts and cards. It has border strips, sayings and alpha stickers. I used the gorgeous alpha stickers for my 3 word title - Father & Son (which the littlest of my boys decided was the title he wanted).

I have also used some of the Garage Days Rub Ons on the layout. These work really well and are great to add that little something to your layout.

My 2 photos were taken in 2009 as we headed off on our Thailand trip. We were actually still in Melbourne and we had caught the tram to St. Kilda beach. It was nice to be able to include a 5” x 7” photo as well as a smaller photo.

For the mask/stencil part of the recipe I have used a Prima mask. It, like the chipboard embellishments, has cogs and wheels. I have used some Texture Paste with the mask and then to take away the starkness of the texture paste I slightly rubbed with some Tim Holtz Walnut Distress Ink. I also used some distress ink around the edges of the background patterned paper.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1.....Blast Off - Again!!

Mel here again for my second post for July...aren't the months just flying by??

Well, I have been busy playing with my kit from Scrapbookit this month and I must say I have had HEAPS of fun with this paper collection.....Blast Off! from Kaisercraft.

Today, I have a few things to share with you. So grab a cuppa it might take a while!!!

Here is my layout using the Blast Off! Paper Collection...

Now for my second project...

I tried to think outside the square a little and create something that is useful.

So I came with a canvas calendar...here is a shot of the completed project...

Thought I would step you through the process of making this cute little canvas calendar so that you might feel a little inspired to make one for those little monsters in your life.

Step One:

Create your canvas background.
I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink to swipe over the canvas. I was a little impatient with the drying process so I used a heat gun to move it along....just make sure you don't hold your heat gun too close and burn holes in your canvas...I came very close several times!!

Step Two:

Choose your background patterned paper and adhere.

I used Mod Podge to adhere my paper to the canvas. I also then use this as a sealer...great if your project is going to be on display and collect dust particles...easy to wipe over with a damp cloth.
Hint #1: Distress Ink and Mod Podge don't go well together. The Mod Podge appears to move the ink around. It will change the colour of your brush. Be careful when you are applying Mod Podge over your paper. However, this could be a great effect too!

Hint #2: In the photo below, the paper may look a little bubbled or wrinkled. Don't be too put off by this...be sure to adhere and then let it settle. You will notice that it will all calm down and flatten out over about 24 hours.

Step Three:

The next background layer...Texture Paste.
To create another layer I have used the Kaisercraft 'Bubbles' 12x12 mask and some texture paste.

Once these were dry I painted them using three different paint colours.

Step Four:

Create your layout.

Essentially the base is like creating your own layout...just minus the photos (although photos would be good too!)

You will need to decide what elements you would like to include.

I included...some die cut stickers, some collectables and a cute little chipboard word from WOW.

You will also need to decide how to incorporate the calendar.
I have decided to make it so that the day, date and month were interchangeable.

I created a space for these elements to be attached...see below.

Step Five:

Create your the day, date and month labels.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to create the letters for the day, date and month and adhered them to strips of paper. You could use any sort of die cutting machine, adhesive alpha letters or even print them on your computer.

Step Six:

Protect your project!

Projects like this usually get handled regularly. We would be disappointed if they weren't used for what they were made for however, we would like them to last as long as possible...especially with those little monsters fingers!
I protected the canvas, paper and all of the die cut stickers in the background with Mod Podge. All of the strips for displaying the calendar, the calendar pieces and the collectables have been laminated for further protection.

And there you go a cute little calendar for all of those cute little monsters in your life!

Big Announcement Time!!

Welcome everyone

Well we are finally here, the 1st of May and our big announcement  of our new Design Team ,New Challenges and a New Direction for 'Scrapbookit'.

Firstly I would like to welcome back Mel Field as our Design Team Leader, I am so grateful to have this lady beside me making my life that much easier when it comes to running my business. I'm sure you will be inspired by the creations Mel will share with you all.

Hello there! My name is Ruby Bisson, I am 18 years old from Sydney, Australia. I have been scrapbooking for about 5 years now, and crafting with my Mum since I was 6. I have completed a year of university studying English Literature and Sociology, however, have taken this year off to travel and work. So far I have been to Cambodia and worked at a cafe, peach and fig farm and an art store. I am loud and bubbly and love colour and art. BRENDA CALDOW

Hello my name is Brenda and I'm a married mum with two lovely boys who manage to keep my life very busy and happy. We live in country

Victoria and run a beef cattle and cropping farm. I also drive buses but mainly now just for our local primary school. Scrapping and card making are my passion and my boys, family and friends are my inspiration. My other passion is taking photo’s. When I leave the house so does my

camera. Since my boys are now 9 and 10 I replaced the nappy bag with the camera bag and all its extras.  

I cant wait to share the next six months with this great team, I'm sure they will get all our creative mojo's in full swing.

Now to this months challenges, we will only be having the one open challenge from now on and this month I have chosen a pagemaps  sketch  with two extra criteria. To enter your Layout it must resemble this sketch and you also must use 'washi tape' and 'paint' on your page.

I have used the 'Kaisercraft' Needle and Thread range to create this cute page. I have used a Kaisercraft template, Thickers title, Washi tape, and of course paint.  I have used a strip of washi tape on my folded flower to coordinate.

For the Childrens challenge you can create a project that highlights your 'Favourite Sport'. Whether its a sport you play or just one you follow.

Entries for these challenges are due in via email by the Friday the 31st May.

Winners will receive a prize pack to create next months challenge and the chance to post your work on our BLOG.
